The question of when Terry Pegula bought the Buffalo Bills has a straightforward answer, yet the transaction itself was anything but simple. After months of uncertainty following the passing of long-time owner Ralph Wilson Jr., Pegula and his wife, Kim, agreed to purchase the franchise on 9 September 2014. The Pegulas, who already owned the NHL's Buffalo Sabres, paid approximately $1.4 billion to secure the team, a then-record sum for an NFL franchise. The deal was formally approved by NFL owners on 8 October 2014, and the sale was completed two days later. Below, we examine the timeline, the significance of the acquisition, and the enduring impact of the Pegula era on western New York.
